The New Mavericks Podcast: Elise Roth

Elise Roth — Elise grew up in London, listening to recordings of the Andrews Sisters, Artie Shaw, and Glenn Miller, never imagining that she'd come to be known as the “poster girl” for the vintage music and dance scene in New England. Thanks to her timeless look and lithe vocals, she is setting the standard among performers of Big Band and swing music. Like many of her jazz forebears, Ms. Roth trained in the classical tradition and received her Masters in Music from New England Conservatory. Audiences who have seen her perform know that every detail is pitch-perfect, and her classic presentation is second only to her repertoire of music ranging from the 1920s Jazz Age through the 1950s. She is often compared vocally to Helen Forrest, Rosemary Clooney, and especially Judy Garland. Now back in the UK, Elise is putting her reasonably neutral American accent to good use by narrating audiobooks, recording voice-over, and voice-acting.

Elise is one of my good friends from many moons ago and I have always adored her sense of style and musical flair. We speak about her journey from the world of opera to jazz and her forays into the world of voice acting. Please enjoy this new installment of the New Mavericks!
